For the well-being
of humans, animals and nature

Welcome to our project "Lieblingsbauer"

"LieblingsBauer" ("Favorite Farmer") is a project of the nonprofit association Urkraft Leben.

We are a traditional permaculture farm that produces handmade, authentic foods following ecological principles—just like in the old days.

From the fresh milk of our cows and dairy goats, we craft cheese and dairy products by hand every day. We also make delicious jams, chutneys, fermented foods, and living vinegars. And we love sharing our knowledge with those who are curious and passionate about real food.

We invite you on a journey into the world of living food—food that nourishes your cells, supports well-being, and fosters vitality. That's one of the reasons why we grow ecological vegetables year-round for our members and explore the relationship between natural, authentic food, health, and well-being. You can even raise your own pasture pig with us!

In our market garden, we follow the No-Dig and No-Till principles. That means once a bed is prepared, we don't disturb the soil again—preserving the life in the ground. We study how nature's health, biodiversity, and food quality can be enhanced in different environments, and how these improvements benefit humans, animals, and the planet.

Even here in Hungary's sunniest and driest region, our earthworms are thriving—and loving it. We use no chemicals or medications in our production processes. Every part of our farm is designed as a circular economy, or built anew with this goal in mind.

All of our products are handmade, unprocessed, and of the highest quality—authentic food, just as it should be.
0% Chemicals – 100% Health.

Our philosophy: Understanding humans, animals, and nature as one living system—working together, enriching each other, and growing in harmony.

Healthy, ecological, and high-quality food is at the heart of what we do. That's why we offer our members the opportunity to take part in our health-focused project—by subscribing to seasonal cheese boxes, vegetable shares, or picking up fresh food directly from our farm. Together, we're creating a more vibrant, healthy future.

If you're interested in joining us, just get in touch!
You'll find more information on this website—or reach out for a personal conversation.

Fresh food, ecological farming, and seasonal produce also mean that not everything is available year-round (strawberries at Christmas?). Sometimes there may be an abundance of certain crops during harvest time, too.

To balance shortages or surpluses, we've built partnerships with other small-scale farms that also follow ecological practices. Together, we've created a cooperative circular economy—so that a broad and diverse product range is available to all participants.

Throughout the year, we host seasonal events for members and visitors—like harvest festivals, winter BBQs, wild herb brunches, and hands-on workshops in areas such as permaculture, traditional cheesemaking, no-dig vegetable gardening, fermentation, sausage-making, and more.

Alongside our cows and goats, a herd of pasture pigs lives year-round in the open fields, joined by geese, ducks, and chickens—just like on a traditional farm.

We're glad you found your way here.
Warmly,
Your Lieblingsbauer

PERMACULTURE

What is Permaculture?

The term permaculture is derived from "permanent (agri)culture" and refers to the idea of long-term, sustainable cultivation and land use. Permaculture is a holistic approach to agriculture and gardening that is based on closely observing natural ecosystems and cycles—and learning to work with, rather than against, them.

It is in our nature to observe attentively, to recognize patterns, to follow natural processes, and to seek the deeper wisdom of creation. In conventional agriculture, soil is often disturbed multiple times a year—plowed, turned over, and treated with a variety of chemicals.
In contrast, permaculture beds are established once and cultivated over many years, with a strong emphasis on understanding and integrating natural forces.

Permaculture asks questions like:
– Where does the wind come from?
– How does the sun move across my plot?
– Which natural predators exist for certain pests?
– How can I attract beneficial insects to my garden?

Rather than thinking in short, annual cycles, permaculture is rooted in long-term planning across multiple growing seasons and years. This differs even from organic agriculture, where gardens are often restructured from scratch every year.

Although we follow organic principles in our farming, we have chosen not to pursue organic certification. In our view, the term "organic" has become too diluted and commercialized to reflect the depth of what we aim to do.

For us, permaculture is more than a farming method—it's a way of life. It means living in harmony with nature, taking personal responsibility, and cultivating a mindset of awareness and respect for all living systems.
